At Shani School, we understand that regular attendance is essential for successful learning. It is a requirement by Kenyan law for students aged 5 to 18 years to attend all scheduled classes and activities. This page outlines our policies and procedures regarding student absenteeism to ensure continuity in learning and adherence to legal requirements.
Consistent attendance is vital for students to keep up with the academic program and participate fully in the learning process. Absences can disrupt the continuity of instruction and often lead to additional work to catch up with classmates.
If your child is absent, we request that you inform the School Administration by 9.00 am on the same day. Please call the school each day your child is absent to ensure we are aware and can make necessary arrangements for their return.
Upon returning to school, students are required to present a written justification for their absence. This can be a letter or a note in the school diary from the parents, explaining the reason for the absence.
If you need to collect your child before the end of the school day (3.00 pm for Kindergarten and 4.10 pm for Primary), please notify the class teacher through the school diary or call the office to inform the School Administrator or Head Teacher. Children may be collected no later than 1.30 pm. Please note that no student will be permitted to leave the school premises after 1.30 pm.
A student’s absence will be considered excusable for the following reasons:
